Some of you may ask, why doesn’t Event Registration have this feature or that feature? Why not just make a plugin that can handle every conceivable registration need?
It’s kinda like flying cars. The concept is nice but the practicality of it and the reality of it are far away. The idea of a catchall “Swiss Army knife” event registration plugin is dangerous. By tacking on every feature and need you can imagine, you end up creating a Frankenstein’s monster of plugins, rather than succeeding at everything, you find your plugin ends up failing to be particularly good at anything.
Over the years, I have seen many versions of my plugin reinvented by others. Some have done a good job and others not so much. The one thing I see and found myself suffering from was the desire to give the user’s everything they wanted.
This created a monster, too much for the typical user to manage. A jungle of menus, screens and choices.
In this rewrite of the plugin, I have tried to accomplish a few things:
- Make the process clear, allowing the user to find what they are looking for easily.
- Try to avoid features that may cause conflicts with other plugins.
- Provide the user with a few flashy tools, but not too much to burden the site or user.
- Provide a limited amount of customization options, making the plugin easy for the average user.
We all must remember that the concept behind WordPress is to make the lives of site authors and visitors easier.
If a plugin, or a site, includes too many features, using them on a regular basis becomes cumbersome.
I hope you find the redesign and use of Event Registration a pleasure to use. A plugin that has enough features to meet your everyday needs, but simple enough a novice can do it.
For those of you who absolutely need feature upon feature, we have versions and modules available for sale and always offer personalized modifications for a price.
Thanks again for looking at and using Event Registration
